    ASM Alert email

Hi, I received this email, and not sure if it affects our departure on the #6 CA Zephyr tomorrow morning (Sat) out of Emeryville. Can someone help me figure out if our train departure will be delayed? Thanks in advance! Train: 6 Origin Date: 08/08/2014 Status: Overdue at Emeryville, CA (EMY)...

CA Zephyr - Get food "to go" from dining car?

Thanks! I figured we'd be there for breakfast and dinner, so lunch in the observation car would be a change of scenery. Hah! No pun intended. Thank you, I will ask the SCA when we board - if it's a hassle to bring to lounge car, then I'll just ask to bring to our sleeper. Yes, I'm a big...

Just wanted to say that California is a PITA about most things. :)

Question about garbage in sleeper car?

This is probably a really dumb question, but is there a garbage can in the bedrooms? Does the SCA empty it out daily, or do I ask for that?

CA Zephyr - Get food "to go" from dining car?

Thanks, will do! Okay, makes sense - I don't want to make too much trouble! I guess I'm just concerned about not being able to get a seat in the observation lounge after lunch; figured we could just nosh on lunch while looking out. Maybe that's a silly idea?

CA Zephyr - Get food "to go" from dining car?

We will have a bedroom on the CA Zephyr. Since meals are included, can I get our lunch to go from the dining car, and bring to the observation car?

Kaiser requires ID even for routine doctor appts. It's one way to crack down on membership fraud.

It's a mandatory tax in SF restaurants. Goes to help pay health insurance for restaurant workers.

July 13-14: New Orleans to Washington D.C.

Right here with ya! My younger son and I will be doing the CZ and CL in a few weeks, and I am hoping that we get nice dining companions as well. I'm not totally introverted, but it is a push for me to make long conversations with strangers.

Too bad about your fall, but what a nice lady to come over and help you (and yell at those terrible boys!) Love the story about the PB&J happy hour!

July 13-14: New Orleans to Washington D.C.

Very nice report! I think I recall that you are a little hesitant about eating meals with strangers in the dining cars - did that work out okay for you? We are going to Washington DC in a few weeks - after reading about the humidity and your "tip" that distances are longer than they appear, I...

Okay, thanks! I don't mind walking, just wasn't sure where to check in our luggage. Thanks again!
