    Amtrak Derailment Philadelphia (5/12/2015)

If anyone's looking for interesting spotting, a US DOT FRA car just passed on its way south. It passed South Norwalk CT around 2:20 pm, coming from the Danbury spur. It looks like one of the Amtrak Metroliner cab cars. It had a New Haven loco on the front and MTA one in the back, nothing else...

NEC City Pairs, Which are the Busiest??

NYP-WAS Yes, it adds more passengers at PHL but everyone is going to either NYP or WAS. Having the Keystone service also helps alleviate some of the NYP-PHL traffic.

    ACS-64 Heads Up

Was in DC yesterday at 3:30. Sitting in the yards north of the station.

    Railway Express Building in DC

I don't know that all REA agents carried sidearms but there were indeed armed agents. I believe at least one clerk was armed in the car while it was on the road. Way before my time so someone else probably has more definitive info. REA moved hard currency but also a lot of other documents...

Reusing frozen food items after a train's run

If it's never defrosted, moved directly, and within the expiration date, it should be OK if done correctly. Sorry, I'm not sure about FDA regulations but you should be able to search for a checklist that a state health inspector would use. The FDA guidelines are probably pretty similar. It...

Major Service Disruption on NE Trains

No idea about Amtrak crowding but MNRR still pretty bad. Similar to how NJT was after restoring partial service post-Sandy. Conductors not collecting tickets at times because it's too crowded to walk through south of Stamford. People standing in bathrooms at peak times.

    Fall foliage day trips (Princeton)

The campus itself is beautiful and worth walking around. Someone there (or online) can give you more details but Nassau Hall has very interesting history. It was fired on during the Battle of Princeton during the Revolutionary War. Washington led that battle in the week following the famous...

    Amtrak phone survey

I've gotten it recently too but declined to participate. It's a survey company named WBA that has been contracted by Amtrak: http://www.wbaresearch.com/clients/transportation If it came from a 607 area code, it's likely the same thing.

any suggestions on how to use $317 eVoucher for one-day trip?

Why don't you just book a ticket for someone else who is traveling next month at a deep discount? They pay you $200 and you book a ticket in their name worth $300. You can post on Craiglist, ebay, or maybe someone here would be interested. It's perfectly legal, they save some cash and you...

Major Service Disruption on NE Trains

Here's the Thursday AM back-up plan for MNRR http://www.courant.com/community/new-haven/hc-metro-north-pdf-map-of-new-haven-line-service-20130926,0,992688.htmlpage

Major Service Disruption on NE Trains

Question for the board on the bustitution... Anyone know why Vermonter would turn back at SPG? I would have assumed it would continue to NHV under diesel and then transfer passengers to a regional instead of leaving a gap.

Major Service Disruption on NE Trains

Saw you made alternative arrangements but FWIW I was supposed to take the Vermonter from Hartford to NYC this afternoon. It ended up being a bustitution to New Haven where we would transfer to a regional. I only found that out after getting to the station. Looking at the app and online...

    Comfortable seats

I second that. I make an effort to avoid non-Regionals (Vermonter, Keystones, etc) on the NE corridor since the cafe seating is so much more comfortable for me.

Distance from NOLA station to the Quarter?

It's about a mile on the nose if you're talking about the Marriott on Poyrdas or the JW Marriott. They are across from each other. Cab or walking is the best bet. The line the poster above is referring to will only take about half the journey off. If you're just looking to go to the quarter...

    Amtrak Threatens Closing Beech Grove?

    Really, really tiny passengers!

Get Amtrak and CAF to bring demo train in middle of NYC

The amount of backlash over Citibike was through the roof and that only away a couple of parking spaces per block. I can't even begin to think of the reaction of just announcing a 3 mile track through the village and up 6th Avenue. Even if this was remotely feasible, you'd be dealing with a...

    ACS-64 Heads Up

I am pulling out of PHL right now. While waiting, the ACS pulled up 3 tracks over (about 6pm, Friday Sept 6). My pictures were pretty bad with everything in between. It was coming from the south, leading about 4 coaches and 2 NE Regional cafe cars. One of the cafes was the only car to have...

    Trash Along The Tracks

I'd prefer they master the challenge of maintaining clean restrooms inside the train before worrying about cleaning up trash outside.

Large delays today (8/29) in the North east?

Ughhhhhh.... just got off the train much later than planned and came here hoping to find an answer myself. No updates on the Amtrak NEC twitter and even less information in the station. I know NJT had an engine disabled earlier in the day at NY Penn so assumed that caused some delays in the...
