If you would rather not wait at KCY it is possible to board the Saluki at Centralia and connect in Chicago. There is a small parking area at the station there that you can use.

You could try Kansas City to Columbus Wi in a roomette, then pay for a coach ticket back to Kansas City.

The name of the hotel in Emy is The Hyatt House. It is just across the tracks via an elevated walkway. It has elevators and is also a very short walk. If you need a rental car Enterprise is just across the street from the station and my experience with them has been very good.

Oakland airport is 20 minutes from Amtrak in Emeryville. Southwest Airlines have late evening flights to Oakland, then a cab to the hotel right across the tracks from the station. The CZ leaves about 9:00 AM next morning. You wouldn't have to lose a day for travel to the train.

Age 65 an older can park free at Carbondale with a permit issued at City Hall. I have left my vehicle there for up to two weeks with no problems.
