    Celebrities on Amtrak

When John Madden hosted Saturday Night Live in 1982, they filmed him traveling on Amtrak to get to New York to host the show. It's on Hulu here: (train footage starts around 1:30 in)

Booster seats in dining car on Crescent?

You can always bring your own travel one. We used ours on the Silver Meteor last year to great success. http://www.amazon.com/Chicco-Caddy-Hook-Chair-Red/dp/B000A7V1EM/

    Downeaster collission

I was assuming it was in pull mode; usually southbound Downeaster trains are in push mode; northbound in pull mode.

    No Florida High Speed Rail

Now now, everyone; as someone who, in the past, has lived in both New Jersey and Florida, I can assure you that there are at least 15 whole square blocks in Miami Beach that are a quite pleasant place to live. Outside of that, the entire state should be fed into a woodchipper, panhandle-first...

    What Routes Would You Add?

I'd like to see a daily Washington DC - Portland, Maine overnight train (including sleeper and diner), circumventing Boston by way of Worcester. And during the summer months, the train runs through to Rockland for ferry connection to Bar Harbor.

    Amtrak workers claim $34.5M jackpot

Do they even have an option for a lottery winner to remain anonymous? The requests from deadbeat extended family and acquaintances would be relentless, I'm sure.

    Amtrak COO Crosbie terminated

Boardman's quote from the article is hilarious in its utter lack of compliment: Ouch; that's about as meaningless as Human Resources saying "Yeah...he worked here from 2003-2010."

    Meals on the Silver Meteor

We got lunch out of Orlando on the Silver Meteor (this was back in early August); however, the train was on time.

    Traveling with Toddler

Yep, that's the slightly fancier one; ours (also Chicco) is a bit cheaper: http://www.amazon.co.../dp/B000A7V1EM/

    Traveling with Toddler

Re: eating in the dining car Before traveling on the Silver Meteor with our 18-month-old daughter, we purchased a portable high-chair that clips directly to the table. Looks like this: It ended up working perfectly; it attaches/deattaches in seconds, our daughter was safely and securely able...

Um...can't he just go get a replacement ID?

    Tough call

$450 Is cheaper than buying the points (not that you could buy 25,000 at once, but still). Take the points, transfer the points, use the points, downgrade the card again next year.

Honeymoon on the CZ to Emeryville

I was going to say; there really shouldn't be a lack of things to do on a honeymoon on a train...see for yourself:

new timetables as of 8/30/2010 on the NEC

One thing I noticed; for northbound Silver Meteor passengers connecting to, say, Boston, the guaranteed Regional connection in NYP is back again, after many months of the system trying to kick you off in Washington DC to connect there.

    DC to Maine Trip advice

The Downeaster Business Class car is 2x1 seating, with leather seats w/headrests, legrests and footrests. You get a free non-alcoholic beverage. There is also free wi-fi throughout the entire train. It's only 8 bucks to upgrade.

Viewliner order awarded to CAF USA

You know what I like? A baggage-dorm can easily be converted into a full sleeper car if they have sufficient Viewliner sleeper modules. As far as I'm concerned, those 25 baggage-dorm cars are all stealth sleepers if needed.

    Silver Metor Delay

I think I've finally figured out how it could be 3 seconds in the 1970s, yet 10 seconds today. The Universe is EXPANDING.
