Lake Shore Limited running a Superliner? Surely not...

Thanks. This was my impression, that the Superliners could not fit into NYP. I asked her repeatedly, "Isn't this a Viewliner?" but she insisted that it was a Superliner, so I quickly just dropped the subject, since convincing her wasn't important.

Lake Shore Limited running a Superliner? Surely not...

Is the LSL really running as a Superliner in August? I just booked travel from CHI to NYP on the LSL in August in bedrooms A & B. The person on the phone was quite firmly convinced that these were Superliner bedrooms. I questioned her repeatedly about it, but she was absolutely firm about it...

OK, that must be the thing that I read. That's good news, then--thanks.

    Booking accommodations with a railpass

This gets to one of the points I mentioned above: I seem to recall reading on this forum that cancelled rooms become available again not immediately after you cancel, but at 2:00 a.m. the next day. If that's so, then what you mentioned would not work. However, I'd love to be wrong about...

    Booking accommodations with a railpass

My brother and his family will travel cross-country with me and my family in July. Specifically, we will go from PGH to SLC, and then, a few days later, from Whitefish to Seattle. The complicating factor is that for him this is part of a month-long trip with railpasses. His family takes 2...

    Train newbie

You can book a family bedroom and then one of the roomettes adjacent to it. You will need to do this by phone, though; you can't do it on the website.

    Exchange for earlier departure?

I have booked a trip from Pittsburgh to Baltimore via DC. Understandably, for the guaranteed connection, Amtrak.com leaves considerable slop in the schedule, and offers a 3:25 departure from WAS, even though the Cap Ltd is scheduled to arrive at 1:10. If the Cap Ltd does arrive on time, is it...

    Rental Cars

They omitted that info starting with the Fall 2009 timetable--an annoying decision. The timetable also used to list which stations have redcap service; another annoying deletion. I have kept an old copy of the Fall/Winter 08-09 timetable on the shelf, solely because it contains this information.

First Time Taking A Train, A Couple of Questions

A suggestion: when you leave your seat, especially if you will still be away from your seat when the train makes a stop, put something in your seat that is not very valuable (e.g., magazine, book, jacket you don't care about). That will help make it obvious to other passengers that the seat is...

How safe are the items i leave in my rommette/sleeper

The roomettes do have a closet a few inches wide, just wide enough to slide your laptop into.

    Train Transfer Question

Important! Note carefully the last thing the_traveler said: I.e., unlike an airline, where you really only need the claim checks if your luggage is lost, on Amtrak you always need them -- they will check them when you pick up your bags. I almost learned this lesson the hard way the first time...

    First Time rider

I think this is only true if you are getting a refund instead of applying the value to future Amtrak travel.

Take advantage of the dining car meals (which are included in the price of your ticket since you are in a sleeper), and spend some time in the lounge car; both of these are a significant part of the enjoyment of the experience (in my opinion).

Some questions for a first time rider

Warning: if you take the train down, you'll enjoy it enough that you'll wish you hadn't bought that airline ticket for the trip back.

    Random question

Really? That crossed my mind, but I figured it probably was not a CCC, because I have seen various people state that (what I think of as) the dining car on the Capitol Limited is a CCC, and it looks different from the photo on p. 112. Do the CCC's not all look the same?
