Do you think Amtrak jumped the gun extending the crescent to NOL? I would think amtrak officials were aware of NS allowing CSX freights on its tracks, thus making for huge delays. Pre-Katrina, I found the crescent to be pretty reliable, especially northbound. Usually arrived at NYP 30 min. early

I was on #92 (2/14) out of Rocky Mount. Train arrived 10 min. late at 7:11am. Only stopped twice for passing freights. Arrived NYP 5 min. early. Only negative was at least 3 bathrooms out of order. Pretty full train up to DC.

What's going on with #2/422 today? Looks like its arriving at San Antonio at 5AM, almost 7 hrs. late. I planned to go on this train in December, but recent extreme tardiness into CHI is making me rethink that trip.

I'm thinking of connecting at Fort Worth with #822 NB to Okla. City. Enduring a long bus ride to Tulsa/KCY and taking the Ann Rutledge to CHI. It's been several years since riding that train and it would be my first time EB.

As much as I hate overly long bus rides, I might have to do that 11 hour ride to Pasco. I have to attempt a same night connection with #8. I would imagine that the trip is scenic at least. :(

When #14 is running very late to PDX, where are passengers usually bused to make that connection to EB Empire Builder?

Thinking about taking #2 EB from lax-nol. I wanted to ride @422 all the way to chicago, but I've noticed otp has been brutal lately..I must make connection to NYP. I might ride to nol, spend the night and catch the crescent nb. Anyone no if any hotels near the station have reopened?

I'm thinking about taking a train from chicago to nyp via pittsburgh. I'm not crazy about having to sit in Pittsburgh almost 3 hours to make the connection to #42. Are there any restaurants nearby to grab a bite to eat at 4-5am?

Thanks for the info. It looks like I will wait until next spring to take canadian trip westbound. This will also allow me to ride amtrak to Toronto, stay 2 nights and ride via's toronto-windsor route. I would like to try that route. Looks like I'll be planning a christmas trip to Los Angeles...
